Profile



On the Fifteenth of March 2002, The Madurai Charitable Trust was created and constituted as a public charitable trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 to function without any profit motive. The trust has already got registered with the Income tax Act, 1961 and also got the 80-G exemption certificate so as to avail the benefit by the donor. The trust has also applied for registering with the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 which is under process.

The Trust has been founded and guided by the local service minded people of Madurai including professionals and businessmen. The Governing Body, consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Managing Trustee, Treasurer and three committee members, has been appointed for a consecutive period of three years to manage the Trust functions efficiently.

The Trust’s mission is to promote Projects in the 3 main areas of MEDI-CARE, SOCIO-CARE and EDU-CARE.

These projects encompass various programmes such as Medical Centers for providing ‘Quality Medicare’ and treatment of all kinds of illnesses, Centers for old-aged, orphans, destitute and handicapped people and Educational Centers specifically to develop self-employment and promoting cause for all by having conferences, seminars, workshops and other means of updating an exchange of vital information for public benefit.

In 2002 Dr. T.N. Kuppusami (Dr.Tim) donated the land in a new release area at Sasthri Nagar, Kadachanenthal on the outskirts of Madurai to build a home for the aged. They designed and built the Akash Home for the Aged which comprises accommodation and facilities for 30 older people without family and community support. The building is a light and airy building with 6 double bedrooms, a large bedroom for 4 people,Dormitory hall, kitchen, dining hall, office and meditation hall. There are staff who care for the residents 24 hours a day.
